TV Series are an addiction

Instead of reviewing books like I should be doing, I have been immersed in the world of TV series! Yeah, I’m reading several books right now: Simon vs The Homosapiens Agenda (which I’m loving), Clean Sweep and Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. However, I have been feeling like watching shows more. Hence, not finishing one single book in 1 week. Anyways, that’s why I decided I should share all the series I’m currently addicted to!

The 100

Set 97 years after a nuclear war has destroyed civilization, when a spaceship housing humanity’s lone survivors sends 100 juvenile delinquents back to Earth in hopes of possibly re-populating the planet.

So yeah, this must be one of the most underated or underwatched tv series out there right now. This might seem like one more teenage drama, it’s CW ffs. However, don’t be fooled. The 100 is one amazing series that makes you question your physical and moral limits as a human being. It’s addictive, it’s fascinating. GO WATCH IT. Also, season 3 has started 2 weeks ago and DEAR GOD HAS IT BEEN AMAZING! The showrunners are killing me and let me tell you, they are some shipsinkers and sure love to troll with us fans!

The Good Wife

Alicia has been a good wife to her husband, a former state’s attorney. After a very humiliating sex and corruption scandal, he is behind bars. She must now provide for her family and returns to work as a litigator in a law firm.

This is a show that has been running for 7 years now and I’m devouring this new season. Alica Florrick is a lawyer that has been through a lot but now has gone back on her feet and is showing the Chicago Scene that she is a force to be reckoned with. I’m a little appreensive about how everything will play out in the end as there are some rumors that this might be the final season. If you like politics, conspiracies, unfullfilled romance and fast-paced tv series, give it a go. You won’t be disappointed.

2 Broke Girls

Two young women waitressing at a greasy spoon diner strike up an unlikely friendship in the hopes of launching a successful business – if only they can raise the cash.

I might be a little late on this ride but I’ve recently started watching 1 Broke Girls and DAMN is it catchy and funny. I love the dynamics between Max and Caroline and, honestly, all the characters have their spotlight and the show wouldn’t be the same without them. Earl, Sophie, Oleg and Han make the show what it is and even though I am only on Season 2, I’m sure it won’t be long until I catch up with the 5th season that is currently airing.

Honorable Mentions: How to Get Away with Murder and Law and Order: Special Victims Unit

HTGAWM: A group of ambitious law students and their brilliant criminal defense professor become involved in a twisted murder plot that promises to change the course of their lives.

L&O: SVU: This show introduces the Special Victims Unit, a new elite squad of NYPD detectives who investigate sexually related crimes.

This are two special series for me. I stopped watching How to Get Away with Murder after watching Season 2 episode 3 because I felt like I needed the whole season completed so I would binge watch it. Why? Because so damn much is going on! Also, I’m not a huge fan of flashbacks so binge-watching it will make it easier for me to watch this amazing series. Afterall, the flashbacks are what make the show! Law and Order: SVU is one of those series that I watch whenever a episode is airing on TV. I love the show but never get around to watching it from episode 1. Let’s be real, the show has, what, 15 seasons? Anyway, it’s a wonderful series, that is actually realistic, as opposed to many criminal tv series that are airing right now. Sometimes justice is served, other times the criminal is never caught. Also, it’s much better than Law and Order (the original).

MUST WATCH: Jessica Jones

A former superhero decides to reboot her life by becoming a private investigator.

I watched this in 3 days more or less and I guess that says it all!

Sofia and I have been talking forever how we don’t give enough attention to the blog and how we seriously need someone we can trust who would be willing to contribute with some amazing reviews from time to time to this neglected almost 3 years old blog. Luck have it that we have an incredible friend who loves reading (almost *wink wink*) as much as we do and happens to have a way with words. Seriously, this girl can write! Everything that she puts on paper turns into poetry (not like the stuff I write which is usually gibberish and utter non-sense stuff). And better yet, she said she would love (pretty sure she said “wouldn’t mind” but that’s just a technicality and so not the truth) to write book reviews for Chibi Reader and start being active on this amazing community that dedicates itself to exposing great books and trashing warning you to stay away from the shitty ones!

So, it’s with great pleasure that I want you to meet MARTA! As the newest addition, Marta is going to post a fabulous review tomorrow about a book that I loved. Be sure to check it out! Marta also has a goodreads account if you want to take a look (link).

Marta, we cannot thank you enough for joining us here!

Let’s cheer and hope for a brilliant, funny and hopefully unforgettable experience here at Chibi Reader!

End of “hiatus”

Hey guys, I know, it’s been too long and I’m sorry for that but I can say that I finally finished my bachelor degree and don’t have any exams anymore! YAY. Well… that is… until August/September.

But that’s only because I got accepted into the masters’ degree of my dreams and will start it then! So, that’s good!

But that’s for another day and I have good news now, a review (a full-length hopefully) will be posted tomorrow! It was about time that I had time again for writing reviews and sharing my opinions about books!

So… See you all tomorrow!

Mini Book Review: An Ember in the Ashes by Saaba Tahir

An Ember in the AshesAn Ember in the Ashes by Saaba Tahir

Release date: April 28th 2015

Publisher: Razorbill

Summary: “Laia is a slave. Elias is a soldier. Neither is free.
Under the Martial Empire, defiance is met with death. Those who do not vow their blood and bodies to the Emperor risk the execution of their loved ones and the destruction of all they hold dear.
It is in this brutal world, inspired by ancient Rome, that Laia lives with her grandparents and older brother. The family ekes out an existence in the Empire’s impoverished backstreets. They do not challenge the Empire. They’ve seen what happens to those who do.
But when Laia’s brother is arrested for treason, Laia is forced to make a decision. In exchange for help from rebels who promise to rescue her brother, she will risk her life to spy for them from within the Empire’s greatest military academy.
There, Laia meets Elias, the school’s finest soldier—and secretly, its most unwilling. Elias wants only to be free of the tyranny he’s being trained to enforce. He and Laia will soon realize that their destinies are intertwined—and that their choices will change the fate of the Empire itself.”

Holy fuck, this was awesome. It has everything: original plot, interesting and intriguing characters, action, gore and an awesome worldbuilding!
However I did have one problem with it and that’s why I give it 4.5 stars and not a well rounded 5 bright star:
– The love story: come on, you can’t give us a messed up love-square. Does Laia like Keenan or Ellias? Does Ellias like Laia or Helena. Just make up your mind, don’t let us have feelings for certain characters and then be always changing it. However, I do not know who I was rooting for. I Loved Keenan but when Ellias appeares I swooned. Also, his POV was amazing, better than Laia’s!

And the Trials! Were they exciting and heartbreaking. I loved them, I hated them. I felt a lot of things reading this book. I believe I cried during the 3rd Trial. I cried like a fucking baby.

Now, the biggest problem and doubt: is this the end? Do we get the well needed sequel? I hope we do because if we don’t I have to lower the rating. This would happen because the story doesn’t end, it has barely even started! So I’ll patiently wait for a sequel…

The Book Blogger Confessions Tag!

I’ve been roaming around the book community online and on youtube and one of my favourite things to do is watch book bloggers doing tags! They’re addictive, funny, and contagious! After watching so many tags videos and post I figured it was my turn in trying this stuff. This tag was created by LAURA’S BOOK REVIEWS and, if you haven’t noticed yet, I haven’t been tagged by anyone, but I’m a rule breaker so who cares! Let’s get to it!

1. Which book, most recently, did you not finish?

Hmm… Let’s see. I actualy start a lot of books only to drop them after the first chapter. I have started 2 books which I am constantly putting down because they’re difficult to get into: The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater and Unteachable by Leah Raeder. However the most recent one I certaintly won’t pick up again and will forever remain unfinished is The Mighty Storm by  Samantha Towle.

2.Which book is your guilty pleasure?

Probably the Princess Diaries series by Meg Cabot. People say I’m too old for that now that I’m almost 20 but who cares! I’m still waiting for a far away relative to come get me and to tell me I am the princess of some country out there.

3. Which book do you love to hate?

Fallen too Far by Abbi Glines.

4. Which book would you throw into the sea?

Undeniable by Madeline Sheehan. It’s bad guys, real bad.

5. Which book have you read the most?

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead cuz Dimitri. Oh and Frostbite cuz Adrian.

6. Which book would you hate to receive as a present?

50 Shades of Grey. You give me that you’re cut from my friend’s list.

7. Which book could you not live without?

The whole Harry Potter series. They’re my existence and my childhood ok? I love me some Harry Potter.

8. Which book made you the angriest?

So many -.-‘ The worst one was Undeniable by Madeline Sheehan. I did say before I’d throw it in the sea. I was in a bad mood for a weel after reading the book. It’s awful, the characters are hateful and I just wanted to chuck the book against the wall. Check my review if you want.

9. Which book made you cry the most?

If I Stay by Gale Forman AND The High Lord by Trudi Canavan. They just broke my heart.

10. Which book cover do you hate the most?

*scoff* If Soffs were here with me she’d say the same thing most probably. The Endless Knight by  Kresley Cole!

.Endless Knight (The Arcana Chronicles, #2)

And now it’s tagging time! I have to tag 5 people so here they are:

Joana from Bookworm Confessions

Delaney from Theawkward-ness

Michelle from Sleeps With Notebooks

Ki from Doing Some Reading

Sofia here from Chibi Reader!

Hope you guys all have fun doing this tag :p

Book Review: Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover

Ugly Love

Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover

Published: August 5th 2014

Publisher: Atria Books

Blurb: “When Tate Collins meets airline pilot Miles Archer, she knows it isn’t love at first sight. They wouldn’t even go so far as to consider themselves friends. The only thing Tate and Miles have in common is an undeniable mutual attraction. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they have the perfect set-up. He doesn’t want love, she doesn’t have time for love, so that just leaves the sex. Their arrangement could be surprisingly seamless, as long as Tate can stick to the only two rules Miles has for her.
Never ask about the past. Don’t expect a future.
They think they can handle it, but realize almost immediately they can’t handle it at all.
Hearts get infiltrated. Promises get broken. Rules get shattered. Love gets ugly.”

I’m a huge fan of Colleen Hoover so when I found out she was releasing a new book I almost sang Amazing Grace in a restaurant. Yup, that would have been awkward mostly because I’m a nullity when it comes to singing. Obviously, I had to get my hands on the book as soon as it was released but I was a tad bit disappointed and I have to say this is one of my least favourite Colleen Hoover book so far. Well, I like it better than Hopeless but, you know, I was expecting something that matched Slammed. Either way, I can’t deny that Ugly Love was extremely addictive and that I didn’t enjoy reading it. Hell, I nearly read it in one go. If I didn’t need to sleep I’d probably have read it in one night. Having succumbed to my falling eyelids, I had to leave it to the next day (which is today actually). That’s right, this review is going to be full of fresh feels! Continue reading
